Carnaby 20% Shopping Party

The Sister team well and truly got stuck into the 20% Shopping Party, and can you blame us!? 20% off nearly all the stores and restaurants in the area, especially with it coming up to christmas. Most of the shops had some great in-store activities. Bombay Bicycle Club had a DJ set in Ben Sherman, free drinks were handed out in most stores and the Luminites played 3 sets on a stage in the Newburgh Quarter. Not only all that, but the Sister design team also fitted out the registration point just off Carnaby Street, (shown above).

Power of Making

Sister hit the V&A during the London Design Festival and ‘The Power of Making’ has been a particular favorite amongst the design team.

Power of Making celebrates the role of making in our lives by presenting an eclectic selection of exquisitely crafted objects. Presenting a range of skills that are imaginative, spectacular and beautifully random.

The design team had some favorite pieces; everyone loved the Gorilla that opens the exhibition, the 8 foot Silver ape looked spectacular from far away but when we approached it turned out it was intricately made by wire coat hangers. Anders enjoyed the ‘Crochetdermy Bear’ by Shauna Richardson, the huge beast was made entirely out of knitting fabric. Adam felt somewhat star - struck with the Fantastic Mr Fox Puppet. Marcin fancied a bit of bling with Ben Wilsons Swarovski Low-Rider, made from 110,000 swarovski crystals. While Hana’s favorite was Michael Rea’s prosthetic suit for Stephen Hawking with Japanese Steel.

This show is a must see, and what makes it even better is that it runs until January 2nd

Sister Design Team's Hands-On Approach

The Sister design team got very hands on for Carnaby’s Grazia shopping night last week. We received a 48-hour brief to create a pop up shop for the event and the results were stunning! Firstly, a beautiful, hand-crafted black and white version of the Carnaby Street pattern taken from the SS/11 Carnaby Essential guide. After a few weeks of working with the pattern in Adobe Illustrator we swapped our computers and mice for black electrical tape and scalpels. Sister got such great results of the pattern using our steady hands that we took it in our stride to hand render all of the typography too. Sister painted a huge chalkboard for praters to complete the sentence ‘tonight in Carnaby I am going to…’ With comments like ‘find a man’ and ‘shop till I drop’ it seems the shoppers all had that Thursday feeling!  Carnaby Style Scout backdrops were dotted around outside to snap all of the trendy, fashionable shoppers at the party. Overall the Grazia shopping party was a great success. After a few complimentary drinks and some dancing we are not so sure if Sister’s hands would have been quite as steady on Friday!
